Hello everyone, Necrocat219 here! This article will be the first of a
four-part series to cover each race in Outwitters. When I complete each article
I’ll link them all up in one final article. Once you've read, feel free to
comment or ask questions! I might be able to improve this guide with your
feedback! J
To start things off, let’s
summarise what the Bramble does best. To win, your aim should be to try to make
wit-efficient trades so you can overpower your opponent. Thorns are great for killing
1hp units for few wits. Their other strength is to create a wall for your
units, forcing your opponent to spend more wits than yourself.
However, as you may have found out, it also has some
difficulties when facing soldiers and bombshells. Soldiers one shot thorns and
the Bramble has very few options to approach and take out a Bombshell. Scallywags
are especially a tough match-up.
The aim of this guide will be to optimise how you play Veggienauts
and how to deal with each race individually. Be wary though that the match-up
against Scallywags will be in their favour.
Quick & Easy Tips:
-
Don’t boost your Bramble. Place it where your opponent
can’t get to it!
-
Don’t rush your Bramble. Save up wits instead and when
you can kill a Medic or Sniper spawn your Bramble and take it out!
-
Spawning a thorn costs a simple 1 wit. Cover them with
snipers, and it becomes very expensive for you opponent to take them out.
-
On the weak side of the map (Wit space but not spawn
space) Use your thorns as blockades and have a few soldiers and snipers. This will
let you attack your opponent’s weak spot without having to think about your
opponents attack!
-
Use the above to stop Adorable from hit & run
attacks with their Mobiwhale.
-
Against Scallywags, keep your thorns separate. A
Bombshell has to attach your thorns two times, so for the 1 wit spent making
it, they spent 1 wit taking it out.
-
If your opponent targeting a certain thorn, throw them
off by boosting them to 3hp when they are just about to attack. Spawn a second medic to heal units hurt by the Bombshell.
-
If your opponent spawns lots of 3hp soldiers, spawning
a few Heavies is a good idea. They pair up with thorns really well, making it
tough for them to surround and kill it.
The Bramble, Soldiers and Snipers
The Bramble is a highly defensive unit even with its attack
that can’t take your opponent on alone. Rushing one for the sake of using it is
a bad idea. A major strength of the Bramble is that it can do a lot of work the
same turn you spawn it. Your early game goal should be to save up wits so you
can explode with the Bramble when the time is right. I personally feel safe
between 12 and 15 wits.
The unit best paired is the soldier, and is very reliable
without a special unit’s support, so making sure you spend your early game
turns spawning soldiers is important. Each turn you will be receiving 6-7 wits
and spending 3-4 wits on your soldiers, so this allows you to save up for a Bramble.
Don’t be overly aggressive, but if your opponent makes a mistake remember to
punish them for it.
If you feel you can safely spawn your Bramble, setting up a
layer of thorns in front of your weak points or soldiers will make it wit
inefficient for them to attack. Make sure that you spawn a sniper or two to
support them though, if you cover the hex in front of the thorn that will prevent
your opponent’s soldiers from taking them out.
Matchups
From here on, how you play depends on the race you’re
against and the map. Against all 3 races be careful, if your opponent chooses
not to spawn a special and you spawn a Bramble, it’s very easy to get overrun
by soldiers.
Vs Adorables
Before you spawn your Bramble, be careful you can’t be
overrun. If you spot your opponent’s Mobiwhale that is 7 wits they can’t use to
rush you. You might want to spawn your soldiers to 4hp to survive sniper
attacks. You could try spawning 3hp soldiers instead though; this will leave
you with more wits and as the Bramble can take out snipers and runners easily
may improve your matchup.
If your opponent is focussing on using soldiers with their
Mobiwhale, make sure to cover your soldiers with thorns to completely stop hit
and run attacks! Then, focus attacking on their weak side. This won’t lead to a
straight up win, but if your opponent is really aggressive, they may waste a
lot of wits trying to switch to be more defensive.
This replay demonstrates how I used thorns to defend the
weaker side of the map. This allowed me to put pressure on his weak side and
eventually win the game.
Replay Example: A good use of thorns to prevent hit and run.
Vs Feedback
Feedback is the most aggressive race in Outwitters, so you
have to be careful spawning your Bramble against them. Keep wits saved up so
that if your opponent rushes you, you will be able to use your Bramble in a
counter-attack. Spawn a runner in a safe position so that you can combine it
with the Bramble to take out a Scrambler.
If your opponent doesn't
rush you, you should set up a wall of thorns around your soldiers similar to
against Adorables. This does two things: firstly if your opponent attacks you
each thorn will eat up an attack, making it less effective. The other is that
your main advantage is that you can reach as far as you want with the Bramble!
If you can figure out where your opponent has placed their scrambler, you will
be able to use 2 soldiers to take an enemy soldier out and use your ability to
attack, retract, and attack again with your thorns to take them out.
Vs Scallywags
Scallywags are the toughest match-up you will face. Keep in
mind that spawning a second medic is very useful to keep your defences healthy!
Thanks to them often turtling, spawning a Bramble against them is safe on most
maps. The first thing to know is how to take one out as this can be
frustrating. You will need to be able to get into position to hit the Bombshell
with a Soldier & two thorn attacks. This is only possible if you make use
of snipers as well to take out soldiers surrounding it.
If you don’t face the opponent head on, a nice trick to use
is to keep your thorns separate from each other and in splash range of a Bombshell. It costs you 1 wit to create &
replace thorns, and 2 wit for a Bombshell to destroy it (2 attacks), so can prevent you from getting worn down.
Replay example: The best player in Outwitters taking Bombshells head on!
A Conclusion…
That’s a summary of how I optimise Veggienauts when I play
them. Hopefully you will have learnt something from this that will help you
take out your enemies! Remember to comment on if you enjoyed this guide, and
look forward to the next race, Feedback!
Vs Scallywags: quit :)
